Kofi Akpaloo, the founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has made a serious allegation against the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Akpaloo, the NPP is engaging in vote-buying tactics in the Assin North Constituency by distributing herrings, locally known as “Amane,” to residents.
Akpaloo has accused certain members of the NPP of going door-to-door and offering these goodies to influence voters to cast their ballots in a particular way during the ongoing polls. This behaviour is not only unethical but also illegal, as it undermines the democratic process and violates the principles of fair and free elections.
Speaking on Angel FM in an interview at Assin Breku he claimed “Wherever you go, they are sharing Willington boots and cutlasses… they give clothes sometimes in some communities. In other places, they share ‘Amane’ (herrings) and salt”
“I feel for what is happening here”, he lamented.
Mr Kofi Akpaloo further stated that both parties NPP and NDC have failed the constituency in terms of development.
According to him, the sharing of items by both NPP, and NDC will not affect the chances of his candidate Madam Bernice Enyonam Sefanu from winning the election.
“My candidate, Bernice Enyonam Sefanu will shock the world after the close of polls today June 27, 2023.
Three persons are contesting the by-election in the Assin North Constituency including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Charles Opoku, who is number one on the ballot paper, with the Liberal Party of Ghana’s (LPG) candidate, Bernice Enyonam Sefenu, occupying the second position on the ballot and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, James Gyakye Quayson, on number three.
