The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa and Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, recently addressed a statement she made regarding the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program and its potential impact on the rising unemployment rate in Ghana.
During an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa TV on Monday, August 12, 2024, the Deputy Majority Leader indicated that the Free SHS program has resulted in an increase in the number of graduates.
“The high unemployment rate in Ghana is arising out of Free Senior High Education. Because we’re educating more people. A lot of them have completed school and they are not working,” the Deputy Majority Leader stated.

In a statement issued by her office, the Asokwa MP on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, claimed that Madam Patricia Appiagyei’s comments had been misinterpreted.
