The Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono Constituency in the Ashanti region, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has chastised the people, especially the NDC, for criticizing Dr Bawumia’s digitalization policy.
Over the years, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been known for his digital transformation agenda, which he has pledged to make Ghana the digital hub of Africa.
Critics, especially members of the opposition National Democratic Congress, have in recent times accused the Vice President of abandoning his duty as head of the government’s economic management team to talk about digitalization.
Responding to those criticisms in a conversation with Kwesi Parker-Wilson at Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Legislator slammed the NDC and asked them to bow their heads in shame whenever they use the digital system.
“Now I can pay my water and electricity bills from home. When Dr. Bawumia started this thing, we heard the NDC people say you have to abandon the economy and do digitalization. If you are an NDC member and you use your phone to pay your water or electricity bill, then you bow your head in shame and ask God to forgive you,” he said.
He explains that the digitalization agenda has been politicized.
“The good thing that Bawumia is doing has been politicized. Today, if you have a 2- to 5-year-old child in your house, see how smart they are with IT things that they can do that you and I can never do, and if you want to build a country on that pedestal, make sure, whether artificial intelligence or whatever is his point, we can build a country. You think that is not a person for us to support?” the Tafo-Pankrono MP questioned.
