Asiedu Nketiah warns NDC members to stop insulting Alan Kyerematen

The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has raised concerns about the insults directed towards Alan Kyerematen, an independent Presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

On September 25, 2023, Alan Kyerematen, a prominent member of Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), made the decision to resign from the party in order to pursue the presidency as an independent candidate.

Kyerematen, who previously served as the Minister of Trade and Industry under President Nana Akufo-Addo, had previously sought the NPP’s presidential nomination in 2014 and 2019, but was unsuccessful on both occasions.

During his resignation speech, Kyerematen expressed his belief that he was the most suitable candidate to lead Ghana into the future, which led to criticism from members of his own party as well as opposition members.

However, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, firmly believes that individuals like Alan Kyerematen and Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe should not be subjected to criticism or insults, as they are fighting for the secure future of Ghana.

“I hear some of our members insulting people like Alan Kyerematen and others like him,” He said.

He added that Alan is “helping Ghana to get rid of a dictator and the dictator’s party…. This dictator is pretending to be a democrat…. Using state institutions to silence voice of dissent.. So Alan is helping Ghana in reality” Asiedu Nketiah said on Angel FM.

Asiedu Nketia added that in his opinion, insulting Alan Kyerematen was needless because “shooting some birds is a waste of bullet…. ”

Alan Kyerematen’s resignation has been a major blow to the NPP, which is facing an uphill battle to win re-election in the 2024 presidential election. The party has been criticized for its handling of the economy and for a series of corruption scandals.

Kyerematen is a popular figure in Ghana and is seen by many as a potential alternative to the two main parties, the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, he will face a number of challenges in his bid to become president, including the difficulty of mounting a nationwide campaign without the support of a major political party.

It remains to be seen whether Kyerematen’s resignation will lead to other high-profile members of the NPP leaving the party. If so, it could further weaken the NPP’s chances of winning re-election in 2024.
