Nana Asare Bediako, Former District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atwima Nwabiagya, in the Ashanti Region attributed the various challenges in Senior High School(SHS) admissions in the region to the Director of Education.
According to him, Madam Mary Owusu Afriyie, Ashanti Regional Director of Education is not up to the task hence the numerous hitches in the Free Senior High School Education.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Tuesday, 19th April 2022, the former DCE said, Madam Mary Owusu Afriyie is overage and this has made it difficult to perform her duty as expected.
“The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, by now should have gone on pension, she is overage. She has passed her retirement age. My understanding is that she has applied for an extension despite being overage. She is not the only person who can serve Ghana and Asanteman. There are people who have the energy to do the work very well. So she needs to go on by force retirement.” the former DCE emphatically stated.
He added that Madam Mary Owusu Afriyie should be forced to go on retirement to safeguard the region’s SHS education.
About 20,000 students who have registered in various schools (SHS) in the region have not reported despite school opening. The problem according to reports is financial constriction.
Some parents have alleged that they are paying between GHc2000 and Ghc5000 on schools’ prospectus alone. The demand from the school’s authorities, however, has made it burdensome for them to send their wards to the school due to the deficiency of money.
