Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant, has voiced serious concerns about what he describes as a growing security crisis in the Ashanti Region under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Speaking in a live interview on Angel FM Kumasi, COKA lamented the recent surge in violent crime, including armed robbery, noting that the Ashanti Region—once regarded as one of the most politically stable and peaceful areas in the country—is now facing a worrying decline in public safety.
“The Ashanti Region is no longer safe under the NDC government since voted into power,” he declared.
“What we are experiencing now is fear, lawlessness, and a breakdown in security enforcement. People are being attacked, businesses are suffering, and the silence from the authorities is deafening.”
COKA did not present official crime statistics but pointed to reports and testimonies from residents and community leaders in areas such as Asawase and Denase in the Afigya Kwabre North District. He highlighted a noticeable increase in violent clashes and criminal activity in these communities, which, according to him, have become alarmingly frequent in recent months.
“Security should not be politicised. The people of the Ashanti Region deserve to live and work in peace. We can not allow this rising fear to continue,” he emphasised.
He also urged the regional police command and the Ministry of the Interior to intensify patrols, enforce laws without political bias, and engage local leaders to find community-based solutions to the growing threats.
Residents who called into the Angel FM program largely echoed COKA’s sentiments, sharing personal stories of insecurity and expressing disappointment in the government’s response so far.
