Several chiefs in the Ashanti Kingdom have proposed that King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II impose a ban on campaign activities of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region until they produce Chairman Wontumi. Additionally, they are urging the Chief of Bantama to shut down Chairman Wontumi’s media entity.
These chiefs argue that the Ashanti Region has been loyal and supportive of the ruling NPP, and therefore, they should not be subjected to the disrespectful behaviour exhibited by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
“For me, I want the Bantamahene to close down his radio station. Also, I believe that it is important that the NPP be banned from campaigning in the Ashanti Region if they do not produce Wontumi.
“They should not be allowed to raise even a flag in the Ashanti Region for their campaign so that they will be compelled to produce him,” he declared during a meeting between party executives and the Chiefs of the Ashanti Kingdom.
Chairman Wontumi has faced tremendous pressure after allegedly making derogatory remarks about the King of the Ashanti Kingdom during the political party’s parliamentary vetting process.
He was scheduled to meet with Manhyia on Monday, January 22, 2024, but was unable to attend due to health reasons.
The Chiefs have granted him until Monday, January 29, 2024, to appear before them.
