Nananom and opinion leaders at Asem, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have expressed worries over the closure of Asem Experimental Primary School.
The popular primary School has been shut down due to its low population. Factors such as the invasion of cattle, the insane and drug peddlers are among the reasons for the school’s closure.
Speaking to Oyerepa TV in an interview, the Chief of Asem (Asemhene), Nana Amapofo Kyei Baffour expressed serious concern about how drug peddlers and the mentally challenged have taken over the school.
He said the school’s population has declined as a result of the insecurity at the Asem cluster of schools (19 Schools).
He suggested that the schools’ population keeps deteriorating therefore there’s the possibility of closing down almost all the schools.
Thomas Sackey, former Assembly Member for Asem Electoral Area disclosed that a headmaster of one of the schools was once knocked down and killed by a bull, therefore both students and teachers are in fear due to the insecurity of the schools.
