The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reiterated his dedication to fostering peace in Bawku, affirming that discussions with key stakeholders are ongoing to bring a lasting resolution to the long-standing conflict.
He made this known during a courtesy visit from the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and other Members of Parliament at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Addressing the matter, Otumfuo acknowledged that while incidents of gun violence in Bawku have declined, sustained dialogue remains essential to achieving a permanent solution.
“We are still working on the Bawku issue. Gun violence has reduced, but I have invited the leaders of the factions involved—the Bawku Naaba and the Nayiri. I have also engaged with the Mossi and Hausa ethnic groups,” he stated.
He further disclosed that he is awaiting a representative from the Nayiri’s palace to continue discussions.
“The Nayiri was unwell, but I expect a representative from his palace on Tuesday so we can all engage in meaningful dialogue about the conflict,” he added.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also made a heartfelt appeal to all factions, urging them to lay down their arms and embrace peace.
“I want to appeal to everyone in Bawku to put down their weapons. I have urged all stakeholders to inform their people to cease hostilities. We are committed to addressing the historical issues at the heart of this conflict,” he emphasized.
His intervention underscores the importance of dialogue, reconciliation, and collective effort in resolving the deep-seated tensions in Bawku.
