The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled his linguist, Kyeame Kofi Nti, following multiple allegations of misconduct brought before the Asanteman Council.
The decision was taken during a Council meeting on Monday, April 20, 2026, after several complainants accused the linguist of offences including violence, denigrating the Great Oath, extortion, and abuse of authority.
One of the central claims raised was that Kyeame Kofi Nti is not of royal lineage. According to his accuser, he failed to respond to an oath invoked against him in March 2026, citing the need to first inform the Asantehene.

Addressing the matter, Otumfuo indicated he had been prepared to pardon the other allegations but insisted on a defence regarding the issue of lineage.
“Because of Bekwaihene, I was willing to forgive all other offences. However, I give you the opportunity to defend yourself on royalty,” he stated.
Kyeame Kofi Nti was unable to respond to the oath, prompting the Asantehene to order his immediate destoolment.
In line with tradition, his sandals were removed during the proceedings, and directives were issued for the necessary rites to be performed to formally strip him of all authority and privileges associated with the position.
