Asamoah Gyan announces one-week observance for late father Asaase J
Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan, has invited the public to the one-week observation of his late father, George Gyan Baffour Mensah, popularly known as Asaase J.
The former Black Stars captain made the announcement on behalf of his family, inviting friends, sympathisers and well-wishers to join them in honouring his late father.
“On behalf of my family, we invite you to my beloved father’s one-week observation. Thank you,” Asamoah Gyan posted.
The one-week observation is scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools Astro Turf at Mallam-Gbawe in Accra.
George Gyan Baffour Mensah, 82, passed away on June 29, 2026, after a short illness. He was a major source of support for the football careers of Asamoah Gyan and his brother, Baffour Gyan, particularly during their formative years.
Asamoah Gyan has previously spoken about the important role his father played in his journey to becoming one of Ghana’s most celebrated footballers.
The upcoming observation is expected to bring together family members, friends, football personalities and sympathisers to pay their respects and remember the life and legacy of the late Asaase J.
