Dr. Eric Bempong, a lecturer at KAAF University, has made a bold call for the arrest of past managers of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
He alleges that these managers have mismanaged the state-owned company, leaving it in shambles.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Dr. Bempong accused former SSNIT managers of converting company properties into personal assets or selling them to unknown individuals.
He likened their actions to a Ponzi scheme, similar to Menz Gold Company’s fraudulent activities.
Dr. Bempong argued that if the country is seeking the arrest of Nam1, then past SSNIT managers should also be held accountable for their role in the company’s downfall.
He believes that their actions have led to significant losses for SSNIT, and they must be brought to justice.
“If we’re to arrest NAM1, then past managers of SSNIT must be called to book (arrested) because they have put SNNIT into a ditch or mess. They’ve cornered SSNIT investment into their private property.”
Dr. Eric Bempong highlighted that, the lack of accountability and oversight in the appointment and management of state-owned enterprises like SSNIT.
He noted that politicians often use these appointments as a form of patronage, rewarding loyalists without regard to their qualifications or ability to manage these important institutions effectively.
“If a political party is voted to power and appoints its members into state-owned enterprises, the appointees take it as a thank you call.”
