The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has referred the Greater Accra Regional Director Operations, ACP Isaac Kwadwo Asante, and the Divisional Police Commander of Adentan-Abokobi, ACP Eric Winful to the Privileges Committee of Parliament for consideration and report to plenary for a decision to be taken by the house.
The speaker made this ruling upon a complaint filed by the Member of Parliament, MP for Madina, Francis Sosu Xavier.
The MP told the house that, on the 25th of October, whilst addressing a gathering of his constituents after a peaceful demonstration on bad roads in his constituency, some group of policemen came for his arrest.
Upon inquiring from the security, why they wanted to arrest him, they could not tell him anything sensible, so the youth at the protest however prevented the policemen from embarking on their aimless mission and put him in his car.
The Madina lawmaker further lamented that, while in his car, the policemen, thus ACP Isaac Kwadwo Asante and ACP Eric Winful banged it to come out for his arrest but he managed to escape.
He disclosed that, for the last 48 hours, he has not been able to sleep in his house because the police are still haunting him.
The speaker upon hearing the complaint of the Madina legislator, however, charged the policemen for contempt of parliament.
The policemen, ACP Isaac Kwadwo Asante and ACP Eric Winful are expected to appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament anytime soon for questioning.
