A lecturer at the Christian Service University, Otuo Acheampong has blamed the Ghana Police for brutalizing protestors of the Arise Ghana demonstration.
Recall that, the Arise Ghana Demo started yesterday. The protest was against persistent and astronomical hikes in fuel prices by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government that has imposed excruciating economic hardships on Ghanaians.
It turned chaotic leaving some protestors sustaining severe injuries after the Ghana Police attacked and fired tear gas to disperse the angry protestors.
The Police said the protestors participated in violent attacks on them and some of the public including school children.
But Otuo Acheampong, speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time stated emphatically that, the police triggered the mayhem.
“For once, I have to establish this; the police caused the mayhem during the demo. The police fired tear gas without any reason and that is why the demonstrators reacted,” he stated.
He stated that the police did an unprofessional job and should be condemned.
Meanwhile a leading member of the Arise Ghana movement, Bernard Mornah has also stated that the violence that occurred during their protest was premeditated by the police as they fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protestors without provocation.
According to him despite the chaos that erupted during the first day of their protest, they will still go ahead with the day two protest which falls today.
So far the police have arrested 29 protestors for their alleged participation in violent attacks on the Police and some of the public including school children during the Arise Ghana demonstration in Accra on Monday, 28 June 2022.
