Kumawood actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu has described the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka as a major influence in her life, revealing that the spiritual leader played a key role in shaping her confidence and career in acting.

The actress, known for her remarkable contributions to Ghana’s Kumawood movie industry, made the revelation during the final funeral rites of the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region.

According to Mercy Asiedu, Apostle Safo Kantanka was more than a mentor to her; he was a father figure who offered guidance and encouragement during the early stages of her journey as a performer.

She recalled how the late apostle supported young talents during rehearsals for stage performances at the National Theatre, where he constantly pushed them to overcome fear and develop self-belief.

Mercy Asiedu said one of the most important lessons she received from Apostle Safo Kantanka was the need to maintain a positive mindset and always believe in one’s ability to succeed.

“I remember a time when he was preparing us for a performance at the National Theatre. During rehearsals, I was a bit shy, and he told me not to let anything intimidate me in life, no matter what I was doing. He always said, ‘Believe that you can do it.’ He encouraged us to have a can-do spirit, saying that when you are determined and put your trust in God, He will help you achieve whatever you set your mind to,” she said.

The actress further revealed that the impact of Apostle Safo Kantanka on her personal and professional development was immense, describing his contribution to her life as one she could never forget.

“He is my father. He was the one who raised me when I was young. The impact this man had in my life is about 90 percent, so I have to give him that befitting last respect,” Mercy Asiedu stated.

Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and a respected inventor and spiritual leader, passed away on September 11, 2025. His funeral rites have attracted family members, followers, industry personalities and sympathisers who have gathered to honour his legacy.

For Mercy Asiedu, the farewell ceremony was not only a moment to mourn but also an opportunity to celebrate the man she credits with helping shape the confidence and determination that guided her path in Ghana’s movie industry.
