Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka passes on

Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, affectionately known as “Kantanka, the African Star,” has passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church have announced.

Widely celebrated as a man of God, innovator, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist, Apostle Safo was a national treasure whose contributions spanned faith, science, and social development. In their announcement, the family quoted Romans 14:8—“For if we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord”—to reflect his lifelong devotion to God.

As founder of the Kantanka brand, Apostle Safo pioneered advances in local technology and industrialisation, leaving an indelible mark on Ghana’s engineering and manufacturing landscape. Beyond his inventions, he was known for his generosity, championing philanthropic causes, supporting the underprivileged, and nurturing talent across the country.

The statement described him as “a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless,” noting that Ghana has lost not only a visionary but also a legend whose influence will endure for generations.

Signed by his daughter, former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo, the family assured the public that details of the burial and funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.

As tributes pour in from across the country, Apostle Kwadwo Safo is being remembered as a gallant son of Ghana—an innovator, leader, and servant whose life’s work transformed communities and inspired countless lives.
