The Africa Prosperity Network (APN) has called on African leaders and central bank governors to implement continent-wide mobile money interoperability, enabling seamless cross-border transactions.
Speaking at the Interoperability Symposium, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, APN’s Executive Chairman and Founder emphasized the importance of interoperability in unlocking Africa’s economic potential.
With over 500 million registered mobile money users and a transaction value of $1.2 trillion in 2022, Otchere-Darko stressed that achieving interoperability requires political will, courage, and commitment from African leaders and central bank governors.
The symposium aims to present an outcome document to the African Union leaders, urging them to support continent-wide interoperability.
APN, along with its partners, is committed to advocating for urgent interoperability and fostering a cohesive approach among central banks to drive seamless mobile money transactions. The organization believes that unlocking the full potential of mobile money can drive sustainable development and build a more inclusive and prosperous Africa.
The symposium brought together key stakeholders, including mobile network operators, financial institutions, regulatory bodies, trade associations, and governments, to discuss how to achieve continent-wide interoperability.
