Just a day after a major fire gutted parts of Sofoline Magazine, another fire outbreak has struck the Kumasi Metropolis.
The incident occurred late on Monday night, around 10:00 p.m., at the Anwona Market near Afful Nkwanta.
The fire tore through several shops, destroying merchandise and equipment worth thousands of cedis.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly and managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and other parts of the market.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially established, eyewitnesses say the flames are suspected to have originated from a section of the market where a footwear manufacturing facility operates.
No deaths or injuries have been reported. However, traders at the market have been left counting heavy losses after their goods were completely destroyed.
The Ghana National Fire Service has since launched investigations into the incident, as authorities once again urge traders and market operators to adopt stricter fire safety practices across markets and commercial centres.
