Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tema Central have reportedly locked the local National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in protest, citing what they describe as unfair and exclusionary appointment practices.
The action, which took place on February 10, 2026, was led by the Constituency Chairman, Benjamin Jakuma. Speaking to JoyNews, Jakuma argued that loyal grassroots members who have contributed to the party’s successes are being sidelined in the appointment process.
“We have our executives who are qualified to hold these positions, but they are always ignored. If the right thing is done, we will end the protest. Many appointments are being made without proper consultation,” he said.
Constituency Secretary Henry Davidson Ayeh echoed these concerns, saying party executives feel disregarded despite their loyalty and commitment.
“This morning, we decided to lock this office until the right thing is done so work can continue. We have been consistently excluded from appointments within the assembly or metroship, and this must be addressed,” Ayeh stated.
