The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, to ground his leadership in strong moral and cultural values, stressing that integrity-driven leadership leaves a lasting legacy.
He made the call on Tuesday, January 6, during a historic visit to the National Police Headquarters in Accra, where he commended the Ghana Police Service for its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining law and order.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that the IGP’s tenure would achieve enduring success if discipline is balanced with respect for cultural and moral principles.
“The work you have begun will outlive your tenure if it is anchored in values,” he told COP Yohunu, urging the police administration to uphold fairness, professionalism, and political neutrality.
The Asantehene further emphasized that effective policing thrives on cooperation between law enforcement and the public, explaining that when culture and law work together, crime is restrained and public trust strengthened.
He called on the Police Service to maintain integrity, respect local customs, and ensure that community engagement and dialogue take precedence over enforcement actions.
The visit marked a significant moment of collaboration between traditional authority and modern law enforcement, with the Asantehene affirming that peace and stability in the country depend not only on laws enacted by Parliament but also on values nurtured in homes and communities.
