In a bold move to protect the fertile lands and water bodies of Amanase, Osabarima Etuob3fom Asare Panin, the chief of Amanase, has announced a ban on sand winning activities in the area.
This decision aims to preserve the region’s agricultural productivity and ensure food security, as Amanase is a significant contributor to Ghana’s food basket.
Speaking at the 3rd Bomukye Cocoa festival, Osabarima Etuob3fom Asare Panin highlighted the devastating impact of sand winning on the environment.
The ban also seeks to prevent water pollution caused by illegal sand winning activities. Osabarima Etuob3fom Asare Panin, urged the people of Amasaman, both at home and abroad, to adhere to the guidelines and support the effort to make Amanase a safe and sustainable place for its inhabitants.
Member of Parliament for Ayensuano constituency, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, called on sand winning operators to adhere to the right processes during their operations.
She expressed concerns about the environmental impact of sand winning, particularly at unauthorized sites, which can lead to devastating consequences.
The lawmaker of Ayensuano emphasized that while the 1992 Constitution provides provisions for mining minerals and sand, it is crucial for operators to compensate farmers whose lands are destroyed during the process.
