“Almost cancelled my performance” – Sarkodie blasts AfroFest over poor organisation

Ghanaian rap star Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has criticised the organisers of AfroFest after revealing that he almost pulled out of his performance at the event on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Sarkodie said the level of disorganisation surrounding the concert left him questioning whether he should take the stage. However, the reaction of fans at the venue eventually convinced him to perform despite his reservations.

“Almost cancelled my performance at Afro Fest tonight, but the fans are always a good reason not to… literally had to psych myself to get on that stage… reminded me reasons why I barely accept to perform on these platforms,” he posted.

The multiple award-winning rapper said the experience highlights why he is selective about the platforms on which he performs, while urging event organisers to take proper planning more seriously.

He further expressed frustration over the state of the event, warning organisers that repeated lapses could cost them opportunities to work with major artistes in the future.

“…Extremely disorganised, but glad at least the fans had a good time … y’all get your sh*t together,” he added.

Despite his disappointment, Sarkodie said he was pleased that the audience ultimately enjoyed his performance, making the fans the main reason he decided not to withdraw from the show.
