The Government of Ghana has announced a mandatory registration exercise for all machinery used in mining activities nationwide, as part of broader efforts to reform the mining sector and enhance regulatory oversight.
According to a directive issued by the Ministry for Interior, all mining equipment must be duly registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by August 1, 2025.
The announcement, made public through a press statement signed by the Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, serves as a stern warning to all operators within the mining space.
The directive further states that any mining machinery that remains unregistered after the deadline will be confiscated by the State.
To ensure strict compliance, the Ghana Police Service and the DVLA have been tasked to begin rigorous enforcement of the directive starting August 2, 2025. Mining operators, equipment owners, and stakeholders in the sector are being urged to act promptly and avoid legal consequences.
