Akyemansa DCE Leads Taskforce to Arrest Galamseyer, Destroy Eight ‘Changfang’ Machines on Pra River

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akyemansa in the Eastern Region, Linda Ahenkrah, has led the district’s anti-galamsey taskforce in a successful operation that resulted in the arrest of one illegal miner and the destruction of eight changfang machines on the Pra River at Nyamebekyere Ablade-Apetey.

The operation, which forms part of the district’s intensified campaign against illegal mining, was carried out to curb the growing menace of galamsey that continues to threaten water bodies, farmlands, and forest reserves in the area.

Addressing the media after the exercise, Ahenkrah reaffirmed her administration’s unwavering commitment to the fight against illegal mining, especially on the Pra River.

She noted that although the battle against galamsey remains tough, her team is motivated by a strong sense of patriotism and duty to protect the environment for future generations.

“Galamsey has caused severe destruction to our water bodies, farmlands, and forest reserves. It’s not an easy fight, but with determination and love for our country, we will continue to work tirelessly to bring these illegal activities to an end,” she said.

The Akyemansa District NADMO Director, Mr Anthony Bismark Boafo, who accompanied the task force, also commended the operation, emphasising that the district is determined to eradicate galamsey with the continuous support of the government and local stakeholders.
