The National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, also known as Pablo, strongly opposes the decision made by the Nana-Addo-led government to tax winnings from lottery games, casinos, and marketing promotional raffles.
The New Patriotic government, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, implemented a 10 per cent withholding tax on earnings from betting, gaming, lotto, and other games of chance on August 15th.
During an interview on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, the NDC Youth Organizer expressed his belief that the betting tax and e-levy constitute double taxation and should be eradicated.
He expressed deep dissatisfaction, highlighting that the NPP government is even taxing online transactions.
He said, If Ghanaians do not voice their opposition to this unnecessary and double taxation, it is possible that taxes could be imposed on people’s ‘Susu money’.
“Akufo-Addo is even taxing people on social media because if buy things online, thus Facebook and Instagram, before the transaction goes through Nana Addo government has already deducted his tax.
If we don’t speak against this double taxation, if you have money in your susu box, he will end up taxing you. Because e-levy tax is like ‘susu’ money, the moment you transfer that money on your phone, you’re being taxed. What kind of government is this?” He quizzed.
“You cannot tax your way out of your incompetence,” Pablo added.
