Akosua Serwaa vs Lumba Case: I have received several threats after the appeal -Lawyer Kusi
Lawyer Kusi Boateng, counsel for Akosua Serwaa Fosu, has revealed that he has been subjected to multiple threats following his decision to file an appeal against a ruling by the Kumasi High Court.
On November 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court, presided over by Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, ruled that Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, and Akosua Serwaa Fosu should both be recognised as surviving wives of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba. The court held that both women were customarily married to the musician before his death.
However, the court rejected a German marriage certificate presented by Akosua Serwaa, which was intended to establish the existence of a civil marriage between her and the late musician.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, Akosua Serwaa, through her legal team, filed an appeal on December 1, 2025, challenging the decision.
Speaking in a recent media interview, Lawyer Kusi Boateng disclosed that the appeal has exposed him and his family to intimidation. He said he has received several threats, including threats directed at his wife, which created pressure for him to abandon the case.
“After filing the appeal, I have received numerous threats. My wife was also threatened, and that even pushed her to urge me to withdraw the appeal. But despite all this, I believe we have a very strong case. The attempts to intimidate me only reinforce that belief. We are seeking justice, and we will pursue it to the end,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Daddy Lumba’s sister has also reportedly stated that the family will not proceed with the burial of the late musician until the cause of his death is clearly established.
Lawyer Kusi Boateng further accused Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur of deliberately disregarding Akosua Serwaa’s German marriage certificate during the proceedings. He alleged that the judge approached the case with bias and unfairly questioned his professional integrity.
“What the judge did was deliberate. She had already made up her mind. Accusing me of presenting forged documents was an insult to my integrity, especially when the opposing side was aware that the documents were authentic,” he said.
He added that the judge herself acknowledged during the hearing that proof of a valid German ordinance marriage would have legally prevented Daddy Lumba from contracting a second marriage.
