In a bold operation aimed at curbing rising drug abuse and criminal activities, the Agona Swedru District Police Command in the Agona West Municipality has raided and set over 30 ghettos ablaze, arresting several suspects believed to be involved in drug dealing.
The swoop, which took place earlier today, targeted ghettos hidden within bushy areas across the municipality. These hideouts were reportedly being used for the sale and consumption of illegal drugs and as safe havens for criminal activities.
During the operation, police retrieved a large quantity of illicit substances, including marijuana (wee), tramadol, red (a local drug cocktail), cigarettes, and various dangerous weapons.
While a number of suspects managed to flee during the raid, some were apprehended and are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Agona Swedru District Police Commander, ASP Vida Yankey, emphasised that the exercise is part of a larger strategy to rid the municipality of drug dens and restore law and order.
Residents have since lauded the efforts of the police and called for more sustained operations to ensure lasting peace and safety in the area.
