Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has cautioned the judiciary against being swayed by temporary benefits and promises from government officials.
Speaking at a petition presentation to the Supreme Court, Afenyo-Markin urged judges and judicial service staff to think about the future and not be too comfortable with current promises of promotions and benefits.
Afenyo-Markin, a seasoned lawyer, warned that the current comfort and benefits may not last, especially with potential changes in government coming in 2028.
He emphasized that the judiciary should remain independent and impartial, and not compromise its integrity for short-term gains.
The Minority Leader called on the judiciary to speak out against injustices and wrongdoing, emphasizing that democracy and the rule of law demand accountability and transparency. “We are in a democracy, and the country believes in the rule of law. The judiciary should raise its voice if things are going wrong,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
