An ECD Committee in the “Moments That Matter” program of the Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organization (ADDRO) organized a quiz competition among caregiver groups in three communities in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region.
The competition, held on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, at Kpalinsa primary school, involved caregiver groups from Zuedema, Kpalinsa, and Tankansa communities.
Members of the ECD committee comprise representatives from various institutions, including the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Chiefs, Assembly members, Teachers (GES), Women leaders, faith leaders, and lead Promoters.
The competition aimed to assess the caregivers’ understanding of the Early Childhood Development Program, “Moments That Matter,” being implemented by ADDRO in the mentioned communities. Traditional leaders and community members attended the event, making it both interesting and entertaining.
Questions for the quiz were drawn from the Caregiver Support Group and Learning Meeting Guide used by ECD promoters for the facilitation of group meetings.
The Project Officer for Builsa North, Mr. Sylvester Ayelgum, stated in an interview with Kwaching Agwaazeh that the program was first piloted in Chuchuliga in 2018 and then extended to the Kadema sub-municipality in 2023. Its goal is to educate caregivers on child care practices for children aged zero to three years, contributing to maternal and child survival.
Mr. Ayelgum emphasized the importance of investing in children aged zero to three years for their overall development and health.
The program activities include home visits, caregiver support groups and learning meetings, cooking demonstrations, kitchen gardens, savings with education, and toy-making sessions.
Each community presented three contestants, with Zuedema emerging as the winner with 41 points, followed by Kpalinsa with 39 points and Tankansa with 34 points. Contestants received gifts such as bars of Key soap, assorted drinks, and biscuits.
The quiz master, Mr. Thomas Agoalisui, who also serves as an Assembly Member for the area, expressed gratitude to ADDRO and its partners for the program. He urged for continuous education on Early Childhood Development to ensure every child receives proper nurturing care.
