The Chief of Achiase, (Achiasehene) in the Juaben municipality of the Ashanti Region, Nana Tabono Bonsu III together with his sub-chiefs, residents and Assemblymember has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to illegal miners within the Achiase enclave to stop their operations.
He warned them to withdraw all mining equipment from their sites and vacate the community within the set time.
The directive follows the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who vowed to deal with any chief who is found to have engaged in illegal mining.
Nana Tabono Bonsu, therefore, asked Chinese and Ghanaian illegal miners operating within his jurisdiction to stop the illegality within 24-hours or face his wrath.
The aggrieved traditional leader said he would not sit down unconcerned for violent illegal miners, to destroy water bodies and lands in his traditional area.
“Whoever is seen doing galamsey would be met with the great oath of Asantehene,”

Nana Tabono Bonsu insisted that galamsey was an abominable act in the sight of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and that all galamsey activities in the area must cease.
He urged government to set up mining offices in every district in Ghana so that people can get access to license to promote responsible mining to protect our lands and water bodies.
He also called on government to set up illegal mining court to deal with recalcitrant miners who will flawting mining laws to serve as deterent to others.
Nana Tabono Bonsu lll added Nananom cannot sit down unconcerned for our environments and Water bodies to destroy.
He warned farmers and land owners who release their lands to the illegal miners to desist from such behavior to safeguard our environment and Water bodies.
On his part, Assemblymember for the area Solomon Asare commended Nana Tabono Bonsu his unflinching support on the fight galamsey activities in the area
He gave assurance that Juaben municipal Assembly will collaborated with Achiase community to make sure illegal mining activities will stop in the area.
Finally, some of the farmers and residents of Achiase also share their difficulties and challenges illegal mining activities in the area.
