The Oforikrom Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongly denies the allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against NPP Mr Anthony Amankwah, the Constituency Chairman, and the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mr Michael Kwasi Aidoo.
In a press statement released on May 13, 2024, the NDC accused Mr Amankwah of threatening to mobilize individuals to physically harm NDC PC for Oforikrom, Mr Sadat, over the limited voter registration exercise. Additionally, Mr. Amankwah claimed that the Municipal Office overseeing voter registration belonged to the NPP and that they would disrupt and obstruct the registration process without consequences.
In response to the NDC’s allegations, the Oforikrom NPP held a press conference to unequivocally refute the claims made by their political opponents. They stated that the accusations were unfounded, lacked credibility, and should be dismissed by the public.
“The accusations against NPP Constituency Chairman, Anthony Amankwah, and the NPP parliamentary candidate, Mr Michael Kwasi Aidoo, lack any merit and should be disregarded by the general public.”
According to the statement available to OyerepaOnline, signed by Joshua Ofori, Communication Officer of NPP Oforikrom Constituency, the unfounded accusations are an attempt by the NDC to undermine the integrity of the smooth voter registration process in Oforikrom Constituency.
The NPP stated “It is evident that the NDC is seeking unnecessary attention by making baseless accusations against the NPP. We urge the public to dismiss these allegations and focus on the positive and inclusive democratic environment that characterizes the ongoing voter registration process in Oforikrom Constituency.”
“The NPP-led by Chairman Amankwa and parliamentary candidate, Mr Michael Kwasi Aidoo, are fully committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a transparent and peaceful electoral process. The limited registrations are proceeding smoothly without any hindrance or breach of the law.” The statement indicated.
