The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to fulfill his campaign promise to abolish the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).
At the NDC Abossey Okai Victory party, Mr. Takyi Addo, the communication officer of Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, described the E-Levy as a nuisance tax that disproportionately affects low-income households and businesses.
Takyi Addo urged President Mahama to scrap the E-Levy within his first 120 days in office, as promised during his campaign tour. Addo argued that the tax has contributed minimally to addressing Ghana’s economic challenges.
The association commended the reintroduction of road tolls, citing the need for trucks from neighboring countries to pay for using Ghana’s roads.
Gifty Fianu, the general secretary of Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, expressed confidence in President Mahama’s ability to serve the country, citing his composed demeanor and recent appointments.
President Mahama’s demeanor, composure, and recent appointments suggest that he has learned valuable lessons from his past experiences, she stated.
The secretary’s address pleaded with the president to involve the business community in decision-making to benefit ordinary traders.
The NDC Abossey Okai supporters’ victory party is a regular event held after every general election. Similarly, NPP supporters also celebrated with victory parties when Nana Akufo-Addo won the presidential elections in 2016 and 2020.
These celebrations are a normal part of Ghana’s electoral process, allowing supporters to come together and rejoice in their party’s success.
