Abossey Okai Dealers Reject Claims That Spare Parts Prices Caused 30% Transport Fare Hike
The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has dismissed claims by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) that rising spare parts prices led to the recent 30% increase in transport fares.
In a statement issued on September 6, 2026, the Association described the claim as false and misleading, stating that there has been no price increase at Abossey Okai to justify the fare adjustment.
According to the dealers, import duties and market conditions have remained stable, stock levels are steady, and prices of essential components such as engine oil and filters have not changed.
The Association also questioned why transport operators would link the fare hike to Abossey Okai when some operators have admitted to buying spare parts online and not from the hub.
It has therefore challenged the transport unions to provide verifiable evidence to support their claim that spare parts costs have gone up.
The dealers further stated that fare reviews should be based on credible and independently verifiable economic indicators, not allegations that tarnish businesses in the spare parts sector.
They called on government regulators and all stakeholders to ensure transparency and broad consultation before any fare increases are announced, to protect passengers from unjustified hikes.
The Association urged the public to disregard any claims linking the recent fare increase to spare parts prices at Abossey Okai.
