Chaos erupted at the Assemblies of God Church polling station in the Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region over the distribution of breakfast allegedly from the incumbent Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
A pickup truck carrying food packs was driven away amidst hooting from some voters.
Occupants of the vehicle claimed the food, allegedly provided by the legislator, who is contesting against the National Democratic Congress’ candidate, Kweku Addo, was intended for polling and electoral officials.
The vehicle was moved away from the polling station and is now parked outside the voting center.
“We just brought food [breakfast] for our polling agents and EC officials, but the NDC members are asking us to take the vehicle out. The food is from Ursula Owusu. This shouldn’t create a problem because it’s not for voters,” Doris Boakye, a member of the NPP in Ablekuma West told Citi News.
Police are on the grounds to restore order.
