The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wassa East in the Western Region, Mr. Isaac Adjei Mensah, has expressed worry over the rate at which abandoned tollbooths are killing people in the country.
The government stopped the collection of road tolls in November 2021, after the presentation of the 2022 budget in Parliament.
Many road crashes have been recorded at some tollbooths in the country.
Meanwhile, the government has announced the return of road toll collection in the 2023 budget presented in parliament by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Addo.
Speaking with Kwesi Parker-Willson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Wassa East Lawmaker said the tollbooths are killing people.
“The abandoned tollbooths are causing accidents; it’s killing people. When the tollbooths were operating, drivers slowed down when they got there. Now, because tollbooths are on highways, the drivers just crashed into them. Some even forget the existence of the tollbooths.” He said.
The MP, on the other hand, urged the government to move quickly to reintroduce toll collection in order to reduce accidents at toll booths.
