A man whose identity has been withheld has been rearrested following an attempted escape from lawful custody and an assault on his escort.
On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the suspect, who was in custody and being escorted to court in Kumasi over a previous unspecified charge, allegedly sprayed a substance believed to be pepper spray into the eyes of a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer in front of the Akoma FM premises in Kumasi. He nearly escaped, but bystanders quickly intervened and helped apprehend him, leading to his rearrest. He is currently in the custody of the Asokwa Police Station.
The suspect and the CID officer were reportedly using a tricycle for the escort when the incident occurred. This has raised concerns about security measures during the transportation of suspects to court.
