The Ashanti Regional Prisons Ladies Association, PRILAS has celebrated end of year party 2021 edition.
The event came off Thursday, December 9 2021 in Kumasi, at the Adum Central Prisons.
The celebration on the theme: A female correctional officer: a catalyst for reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration was marked to honour the good work of prisons ladies throughout the year.
The event was marked by gallant PRILAS members.
Speaking at the glamour occasion, Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Hannah Hilder Awanor, President of Ashanti PRILAS eulogized members of the association for their unrelenting effort towards the wellbeing of the Ghana Prisons Service.
She, however, expressed worry about the stigmatization ex-convicts goes through in society.
According to her, many ex-convicts are invariably stigmatized in the various societies they find themselves in, for this reason, many of them end up coming back into the prisons (recidivism) due to the ill-treatment they go through.
ADP Hannah Hilder Awanor further declared that most prisoners are invariably given extensive vocational training in order to fit into society when they are freed. As a result, families of ex-felons should endow them with some capital to start up a job for themselves.
“I take this opportunity to appeal to well-meaning Ghanaians and the family, in particular, to accept ex-convicts and assist them to put to trade they learn into practice when they go on discharge.” She told the press in an interview. Ex-convicts can be assisted either in cash which will be seed money startup capital…”Hannah Hilder Awanor suggested.
Mr Akwasi Asamoah Feming, Ashanti Regional Commander of Ghana Prisons Service who also spoke to Oyerepa Online pleaded with institutions to give in helping hands to ex-convicts to be able to settle down in the society.
The Commander admitted that prisons in the country need maximum support to be able to cater to the felons. For this reason, all stakeholders should endeavour to help them (Prison).
