The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a string of violent attacks in Kenyasi and surrounding areas.
The suspects—Umar Issah, Sherif Mohammed, and Abdul Jalelu, aged between 19 and 26—allegedly carried out an armed robbery on May 8, 2025, targeting two residents of Kenyasi.
Operating separately on three motorbikes, the suspects reportedly held the victims at gunpoint and stole their mobile phones before attempting to flee.
A swift response by the Kenyasi police patrol team led to the arrest of the suspects shortly after the incident.
During the pursuit, Sherif Mohammed sustained a gunshot wound to his right rib, while the other two suspects also suffered injuries. All three are currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
According to Ashanti Regional Police PRO DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the stolen mobile phones and the motorbikes used in the robbery have been recovered and are being held as evidence while investigations continue.
Arrest of Long-Wanted Robbery and Murder Suspect
In a separate development, the police have arrested Michael Owusu Ansah, alias “Baby Last,” a 32-year-old suspect who has been on the police wanted list since 2016. He is alleged to have been involved in the robbery and murder of SWAT officer Frank Essel at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso on May 19, 2016.
During interrogation, Baby Last confessed to participating in multiple robberies across Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, Asuoyeboah, and nearby communities. He revealed that his gang used knives, pistols, and pump-action shotguns during their operations.
His confession led police to the arrest of four accomplices: Emmanuel Owusu (alias Cassidy), Maxwell Gyimah (alias Nana Kwame), Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah (alias The Man Sudais), and Rhano Okyere (alias Demon). The suspects were captured at their hideouts in Atwima-Techiman and Denchemuoso.
One member of the gang, known only as Abedi, remains on the run. Police say efforts are ongoing to track him down and recover the weapons used in the criminal operations.
All five arrested suspects were arraigned before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13, 2025. They have been remanded into police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on June 4, 2025.
