The Council of elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region claims the party’s stronghold has weakened due to the failure of regional executives, headed by Mr Antwi Bosiako, popularly Chairman Wontumi to respect structures.
The current NPP polls for polling station executives were characterised by frictions and disputes in some constituencies in the Ashanti region.
Constituencies such as Subin, Akrofoum, Bosomefreho, Bantama, Kumawu, Manhyia North, Ejisu and Kwadaso recorded altercations during the elections.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional NPP office at Krofrom where those conflicts are supposed to be addressed has been locked up by the facility’s landlady over unpaid rent arrears.
Chairman of the Council of Elders, Reverend Mark Adu Gyamfi has said, it has been difficult for party members to put their grievances before leadership in the region.
According to him, the leadership have failed to involve the Council in party issues over the years.
He has chastised the party’s executives for the recent upsurge in internal wrangling and factions within the party.
As per him, though they are not being paid, for the love of the party the elders are working assiduously to resolve all internal issues inhibiting the smooth running of the party.
