The son of a landlord who reportedly killed his tenant’s son and wounded the tenant and the tenant’s daughter at Adankwame in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti region has been remanded by the Akropong District Court.
Two counts of murder and two counts of inflicting harm are brought against the 35-year-old farmer Emmanuel Agyei.
He asked for mercy but his plea was not taken.
Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the prosecution, asked the court to indict the accused so that more investigations could be made.
Consequently, the defendant was remanded to police custody by the court presided over by His Worship Alfred Rockson Kpodo, with a new court date of May 22, 2023.
The suspect was apprehended after he allegedly killed the 1-and-a-half-year-old boy, Samuel Amoh, and wounded the toddler’s father, Obed Asamoah, and sister, Bridget Owusu, 19, with a sword.
The attack occurred during bickering between the tenant, who was holding his now-deceased son at the time, and the landlord’s son, who tried stopping the man from entering his room with a reason that rent had expired since 1 May 2023.
After butchering the father and son, the assailant turned his machete on the tenant’s daughter, who had rushed to the rescue of his dad and little brother, who was bleeding from the deadly cutlass slashes.
All three victims were rushed to the same hospital but the little boy was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The wife and mother of the victims, Janet Owusu, told journalists that as the suspect slew his husband and son with the machete, she quickly ran out to raise an alarm amidst shouts for help.
She disclosed that the suspect had been reported to the police before by his mother but was released on bail not long before the incident.
