Some enraged shop owners in the Kumasi Central Business district, Adum have shut down their shops over the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) mammoth tax rate.
According to the businessmen, the GRA has increased its tax rate to 6 per cent, collapsing their businesses.
Speaking to Oyerepa TV in an interview, the traders expressed that; GRA has deployed its workers to their shops, the personnel sit by, monitor their sales and at the end of the day record and deduct the 6 per cent tax. The move they said is gradually exterminating their businesses.
They expressed that, they pay a flat rate so they don’t understand why the government would raise the tax to 6 per cent.
“GRA has deployed its workers to our shops. They sit by, record and deduct their 6 per cent from the sales every day.”
“They’ve told us to add a 6 per cent adjustment to our goods for sale but if we do that, people won’t buy them.
The 6 per cent increment is too huge so the government should reduce it.” The angry traders commented.
“We’re going to close our shops until the government listens to our call.” The Adum shop owners added.
