The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and fatally shot another in two separate operations aimed at tackling robbery incidents in the region.
According to police sources, the first incident took place on July 9 along the Ankaako–Asuoso–Fenase road in the Amansie South District. A distress call was received reporting that four armed men had mounted a roadblock and were robbing commuters.
A police patrol team on duty responded swiftly and successfully apprehended all four suspects as they attempted to flee the scene on motorbikes.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Rahman Alhassan, 27Nurudeen Fatawu, 25 Naafewu Masahudu, 22 and Yaw Saaka, 42
Items retrieved from the suspects included: One pump-action gun, 20 rounds of AAA ammunition, a sword and number of talisman.

One Suspect Killed in Separate Robbery Operation
In a separate intelligence-led operation at Abedwum in the Obuasi Municipality, police engaged a group of suspected armed robbers believed to have been involved in ongoing criminal activity in the area.
Upon spotting the officers, the suspects attempted to escape into a nearby bush while firing at the police. The law enforcement team returned fire, resulting in the death of one of the suspects during the exchange.
A search of the deceased’s backpack revealed 14 rounds of ammunition along with other undisclosed items.
The remaining suspects managed to flee and are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
The Ashanti South Police Command says efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the remaining suspects. They have also urged residents to report any suspicious individuals seeking medical attention for gunshot injuries.
