On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the Ashanti Region was hit by a heavy downpour that resulted in the tragic loss of two lives.
Both victims were males who attempted to cross the flood waters, which were flowing with strong currents, in the evening to reach their destinations.
In Afoah, on the Barekese road, a victim who was sitting on a bicycle attempted to save his bike when the violent flood waters overpowered both of them in the Bantama Constituency.
Unfortunately, the victim’s lifeless body has yet to be located as of Thursday morning.
In the Atwima Nwabiagya North district, a father of two was also washed away at Abuakwa Besiase while crossing a river on a motorcycle.
The traditional authorities in the communities where the people were washed away by the flood waters have been informed, and preparations for traditional rites are underway.
The impact of the flood was felt in several communities in the Ashanti region, including Kejetia, Adum, Breman, Aboabo, and Oforikrom, which were all flooded during and after the evening rains.
