More than 300 traders at the Kwadaso onion market in the Ashanti Region have been evacuated.
These traders basically deal in the importation of onion and distribute it to wholesalers and retailers in the greater Kumasi city.
Sources indicates that, a businessman has bought the market land to establish a filling station.
The evacuated traders have blamed the Municipal Chief Executive [MCE] for Kwadaso, Mr Richmond Agyenim Boateng as the cause of the evacuation.
According to the Boko -Kumasi onion dealers association secretary, Mr John Amos, an importer, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly [KMA] led them to the market in the year 2010. Two years ago, Kwadaso sub chiefs approached them to purchase the market land of an amount of GHc700,000 but agreement terms were not met.
However the market has been sold to a businessman believed to be a younger brother of Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II to build a filling station.
Mr. John Amos revealed to this portal yesterday that, over 4000 traders are likely to be jobless if situation is not solved.
They are therefore calling on Otumfour Osei Tutu to intercede for them as soon as possible.
