Multiple award winning Ghanaian gospel musician and songwriter Diana Hamilton has shared her opinion on the controversial issue, ‘E-levy’.
E-levy is among the hottest debating issues in parliament and the country as a whole. E-levy came about when the finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta mentioned it during the ‘Agyenkwa budget’ reading in 2021.
The e-levy foresees an additional 1.75 percent tax on the transaction value that will result in a total transaction cost of 2.75 percent on transactions above GHs 100 with no upper limit determined yet. The tax will be applied to the sender when they initiate the transfer.
In an interview on a radio station in Accra, Diana Hamilton disclosed that she has little knowledge about the ongoing e-levy policy but she hopes it will be a policy that will favor the people of Ghana.
“I have heard people talk about it, but I don’t know much about it. I know they want to charge mobile money transactions. I think it is a topic for discussion at the moment and it is a debate going on”.
“I pray that the will of Ghanaians is what will work. The final decision that will be taken will favor the Ghanaian. That’s what I have to say” Diana Hamilton concluded.
