As the ban on public gathering has been extended to May 31, 2020, most marriage ceremonies are on hold.
But then a sigh of relief seems to be around as the Marriage Registry Unit of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (K. M. A.) have come up with measures to ameliorate marriage delays.
According to Madam Judith Afi Agbeko of the Marriage Registry Unit, in an interview with Nana Jantuah, K. M. A. has come up with measures to ensure that registration of marriages and subsequent ceremonies go on, although there is a ban on public gathering.
“Nothing has changed in our quarters. All are arsenals have been directed towards ensuring the social protocols are observed at our office, now located at the Rattray Park premises, ” Ms. Judith told Oyerepa F. M.
Speaking on how one can hold a marriage ceremony without, she divulged it all has to do with going by the President of the Republic’s order of not more than 25 people, with everyone strictly putting on nose/ face mask. The Registry Officer stated, “Should a couple, together with their witnesses come to their office to go through the marriage registering formalities, we have provided veronica buckets and soap for handwashing, as well hand sanitizers to help adhere to safety protocols.”
She disclosed that the rate at which people register their marriages have decreased due to the global pandemic, COVID-19, leading to a ban on social gatherings of which marriage ceremony is no exception.
Ms. Judith Agbeko said that plans are in progress to come up with new ways to spice up the Marriage Unit of K. M. A’s activities and duties to help shape people’s marriages as the unit is there to encourage marriage, not divorce.
She reiterated that charges on marriage registration remain the same, nothing more, nothing less.
