A senior lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Professor Robert Aidoo has said, the government of Ghana should appoint Supervisors to monitor the works or farms of youth who may be supported with National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) loans to enter into Agricultural business.
His comment is in relation to the NEIP plans to initiate a GH¢30million package to support young people interested in agricultural innovations.
The Director of Business Support and Policy at NEIP Franklin Owusu-Karikari, speaking at the launch of the scheme themed, “Youth in Innovative Agriculture Support” explained that the support comes in the form of soft loans, ranging from GH¢20,000 to GH¢200,000.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Thursday chaired by BB, Prof Aidoo said, the NEIP initiative is the best however; the government should put the appropriate structures in place and develop criteria to detect who qualifies for the money if only it wants the program to work. He added that, supervisors should also be appointed to monitor the works their works.
“They should sit-down and put the appropriate structures in place, find criteria to detect who qualifies for the work and in the end, government should appoint supervisors to monitor their work.”
The KNUST lecturer further intimated that, the government should place experts at the sector because most of the people making a lot of noise about the program in there are not experts in Agric business.
“Ghana has always faced the challenge of placing non experts at certain sectors and at the end of the day since those people don’t know anything about the sectors , they recruit party members who don’t have the knowledge thereby collapsing those sectors as well as causing financial lost to the state.”
Prof Aidoo stated again that, the NPP government is doing well with brining out programs and policies of national interest but lacks the idea of imploring technical people to think via those policies and their implementation structures.
