It was a sight to behold at the just-ended New Patriotic Party national delegates conference, as hundreds of people trooped in at the Heroes Park in the Ashanti regional capital to catch a glimpse of the lead regional chairman contender, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA).
Mainly because of the nature of the event and its accompanying directives, Mr Odeneho Appiah walked in quietly, unnoticed.
But after the program, fans and supporters gathered around his vehicle elated to meet Odeneho in person and as a result was in a mad rush to get closer to him. They mobbed him from the event premises through to Afful Nkwanta with loud music calling for change. The funny part was that one die-hard fan requested to take more than 15 photos as proof that he has also met him.
This particular feeling at heroes Park has proven that the people are dying to see Odeneho on the Ashanti Regional NPP chairmanship seat and they can not wait for Election Day to translate their love for him into votes.
However, when he was interviewed, he said “At the first instance I was a bit skeptical but I realized they genuinely meant well. All the same, it’s been a successful event and I want to say congratulations to all the delegates, he added.
Well, since delegates are unpredictable like late Sir John said, “Fear Delegates”, one can not conclude that, the chants from the crowd and calls for him (COKA) to take over the seat certify his victory. However, he needs to work very hard for it, in April 2022 when the NPP regional executives elections will be done.
At the moment, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA) and Kwabena Owusu Aduomi are the key persons who have immerged on the billboards to contest Wontumi who is gradually losing grounds and popularity as the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman. Consequently, the radar is largely on COKA and it looks likely he might beat his contenders to victory should he contest for the post.
Many gurus and supporters of the party have called on him (WONTUMI) to step down and contest at the national levels, but “Power-Drunk Wontumi” does not look likely to step aside for others to lead NPP in Ashanti. Only time will tell.
