Educating Youth Early, Key to Winning War Against Drugs – NACOC

The Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Abdul Aziz Ali, has emphasized the importance of educating the youth at an early stage to help shape their life decisions.

According to him, early sensitization on drug abuse will prevent young people from indulging in the act, while those already abusing drugs can still be helped through rehabilitation.

“If you do that at the earlier stage of their life, you will help them. And for those who are already in it, there is hope because there are rehabilitation centres for them to go for treatment,” he noted.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the media when Chosen Rehabilitation Center engaged students of Odorgonno Senior High School on the harmful effects of drug abuse, he said Government is doing everything possible to combat drugs.

The Greater Accra Regional Commander urged the public to take advantage of NACOC’s free educational programmes, noting that the Commission is mandated to fight illicit drugs and educate the public.

“People should know that the Narcotics Control Commission is available. We are the sole agency mandated to fight drugs and educate people on illicit drugs. They should fall on us anytime,” he said.

“We go to schools and churches to educate the youth on the harmful effects of drugs, and doing it at an early stage will help prevent chaotic issues in the future,” he added.
