President Mahama to cut sod for new Accra Convention Centre
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut sod in the coming weeks for the construction of a new Accra Convention Centre at the Trade Fair Centre.
The project, being undertaken as a major investment by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), is expected to provide modern facilities for international conferences, high-level meetings and other major events.
The proposed convention centre will cover an estimated 81,422 square metres and feature a 3,000-capacity main conference hall, a Presidential Hall for high-level engagements and four large auditoriums.
It will also include other modern facilities designed to enhance Ghana’s capacity to host large-scale international events.
Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the development in a post on X on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
The facility is expected to complement existing infrastructure at the Trade Fair Centre while strengthening Ghana’s position as a destination for major international conferences and events.
Further details on the construction schedule, project components and the date for the sod-cutting ceremony are expected to be announced as preparations advance.
